I believe in Christian events. Not only traditional Sunday worship services, but all the others: stadium events, coffee-house events, home-fellowship events, monthly events, annual events. I love all the gatherings: big, small, and in between. I believe God does, too.
The first Christian events were diverse. Jesus and his followers gathered around dining tables, in the temple, and outdoors where thousands could hear teaching and receive ministry. The early Christians met in upper rooms, homes, synagogues and public spaces.
Events have transformed my own faith journey. I’ve recall Billy Graham and Harvest crusades that were all about evangelism; Vineyard conferences that sought spiritual growth through renewed engagement with the person and work of the Holy Spirit and the Kingdom of God; Soul Survivor festivals that have influenced countless young people around the globe; and Renovaré retreats, which promote discipleship and spiritual transformation toward Christ-likeness.
Millions of lives have been shaped by such events – including mine. Knowing the leaders of many of these key ministries has been my distinct privilege.
